Life with Lucy

What a whirlwind these last 12 days have been. I can't believe that my sweet girl is almost 2 weeks old. Not quite sure how I feel about that. I already feel like she is growing up too quick and before I know it she's going to be leaving me to go to college or get married. Makes me want to cry a bit. Anyways, let's start from the beginning.

I went to my 38 week doctor appointment and my blood pressure was really high so my doctor wanted me to get tested for preclampsia. Well I had to do a 24 hour urine test thing and then turn in the results to the doctors office the next day. When I went in the next day my blood pressure was back to normal so I was a little bummed because I just knew that the results would come back negative and I'd continue on with my pregnancy until who knows when. Well a few hours later I got a call from my doctor with the results and I was in the first stages of preclampsia so he told me he was inducing me that day and head over to labor and delivery in a few hours. WOW what an adrenaline rush!! I immediately called Brandon and told him to come home cuz we are having a baby! We also called our parents and told them to start heading up.

We made it to labor and delivery and they induced me and got things going. Well 8 hours later I still really hadn't progressed at all so the doctor came in and broke my water and almost instantly I started getting crazy contractions and they were coming on strong and almost on top of each other. I tried to brave it out for as long as I could but a few hours later after around 2 in the morning I sent Brandon out to find the nurse so I could get my epidural. Well what seemed like an eternity, he finally came to give me my epidural. But before he gives it to me he decides he wants to chit chat with me and was explaining all this stuff to me and I was just looking at him like "give me the medicine NOW!" He finally stopped talking and started going to work. It took him like 4 or 5 times to get the freaking thing right. I was about ready to punch him it was hurting so bad. And he and the nurse are just talking about disneyland and scuba diving and stuff the whole time. He finally got it right and all was well with the world. We decided to get some sleep even though I didn't really sleep because people were coming in and out every 30 minutes it seemed to check on me. I finally dilated to a 9.5 and the nurse said she'd be back in an hour and we'd start pushing.

The epidural upset my stomach quite a bit and I started freaking out that I'd be barfing while I was trying to push, but thankfully I only threw up a few times and it was before they had me start pushing. Our parents showed up after getting a few hours of sleep and were ready to meet their granddaughter! Brandon and my mom were in the room with me cheering me on and I pushed for about and hour and a half until they called my doctor. He was just finishing up a c-section so we just kinda chilled for a few waiting for him. I was starting to freak out a little bit because my epidural had run out and I was starting to come un-numb. I was so scared that I was gonna feel everything and I'd end up tearing and he'd having to stitch me all up with me being able to feel everything. Thankfully Dr. Olsen showed up just in time and a few pushes later and our little miss Lucy was born! It was seriously one of the most amazingly spiritual experiences I have ever had. He laid her on my chest and she looked up at me and Brandon and everything was right with the world. She weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and was 20 inches long with the sweetest little cry ever. I still am in awe that I have a daughter and that she is ours for eternity. We love our sweet little Lucy and seriously couldn't ask for a better baby. She has been a dream. Only gets up at the most 2 times in the night and we are slowly starting to get breastfeeding down. Brandon is one smitten kitten with her and I already love the relationship he and Lucy have. You can already tell she adores her daddy.

We love you so much Lucy. Welcome to our family!!!

37.5

Well folks, we are on the countdown. I don't know if anyone has been watching my slightly creepy floating baby countdown, it now says that we have 17 days left. 17 days!!! That's almost 2 weeks people! Are we elated? Why yes we are. Are we anxious to meet this little beauty? Why yes we are. Are we terrified all at the same time? Why yes we are....ok Brandon isn't, but I am! He's not the one that has to go through labor though, so he's got it easy! I think we've got everything done that we wanted before this little darling came into the world, so now it's just a waiting game. As eager as I am for her to get here, I'm still content with her cooking for a little while longer. Just as long as I don't go past my due date though! I at least want her to get here before Brandon has to start school, which is in 19 days...so it is going to be a race to the finish!

I feel as though my belly has quadrupled over the last few weeks. They weren't kidding when they said she grows like crazy the last few weeks. I'm starting to feel the effects of being so pregnant, but nothing that is making me hate life. I'm still enjoying being pregnant and all the fun perks of it. It still makes me laugh seeing myself in the mirror. It just looks like I'm wearing a belly suit. I officially can't really get off our couch without Brandon having to help me up. We went to a love sac store a few days ago and I made the mistake a sitting down in one. haha oh man, I sank right in that thing and was not coming out!! Brandon had to heave-hoe me out of that one.
I came across this little gem and me and Brandon about died laughing. This basically sums up what the last few weeks of pregnancy are all about:

haha I love it!!!! We must've watched that clip 10 times. Laughing each time.

I'm going to the doctor once a week now and we're walking and walking and walking trying to get things going.
Wish us luck that all goes well and hopefully my next post will be about the most gorgeous little girl you'll ever lay eyes on!!
Oh and here's the big belly at 37.5 weeks!
